Blanket Clip

Image
Blanket Clip The blanket clip is not that popular in South Africa, but it is a useful clip for your medium to hard working horses. All the hair is clipped except the legs and a blanket-like patch that covers the back and hindquarter.

Endurance Clip

Image
Endurance Clip There are basically 2 variations of this type of clip. The first is similar to the hunter clip where all the hair is clipped except for the legs and saddle patch, except the saddle patch stretches down to the girth area. The longer hair of the saddle patch acts as extra cushioning for long hours and lots of movement under saddle such as endurance riding. The face usually also remains unclipped, but this depends on the preference of the owner.  The second clip is a hybrid between the endurance and the blanket clip. The hair is clipped in a similar way as the endurance clip except that some hair is left on top of the hindquarter. This prevents the hindquarter muscles from getting too cold too quickly and becoming stiff during a long distance ride. This clip is a better choice if you plan on doing endurance rides in areas where the maximum temperature is still very very cold during the day.

The Full Body Clip

Image
The Full Body Clip There are 2 types of body clips: The first is where we clip off all of the body hair, including that of the face and legs.  The second is a bit of a hybrid between a full body clip and a hunter clip. All the body hair is clipped except that of half the face and legs. This is especially handy for working horses in hot areas that do not appreciate a clipper near their faces.  Does my horse need this clip? Show horses will need the first and showjumpers, eventers or any other sport horses can make use of the latter. This clip is not recommended for endurance horses as the short hair under the saddle can become raw and irritated, Rather use the endurance clip for this purpose

Hunter Clip

Image
Hunter Clip The hunter clip is ideal for your harder working horses that do not need to impress judges with their coats. All the hair is clipped except for the legs and a saddle patch. This saddle patch serves as a little extra cushioning under the saddle as the shorter, clipped hairs may rub and become sensitive over longer distances under saddle. This clip will also work for endurance horses, but the girth area may rub as well so the endurance clip is rather recommended for them.

Bib Clip

Image
Bib Clip The bib or strip clip is not used that often, but can be very helpful for school ponies or the occasional hack in the hotter areas of the country for horses that tend to get a bit hot. Only the hair under the chin to between the front legs is clipped. This allows for some heat loss during work without compromising the horse's natural protection against colder temperatures.
